Allen Fitzpatrick taught at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey from 1979-2019. Over that span he served as Art Department Chair, Varsity Hockey Coach, Varsity Lacrosse Coach, Housemaster, Chair of the Fine Arts Advisory Committee; under his leadership the school built The Gruss Center for Visual Art and developed a Permanent Collection for the Hutchins Galleries. These roles were sometimes, but not always, simultaneous!

 

Courses he taught and developed include: Design, Drawing, Painting, AP Art History, Printmaking, Watercolor, Photography and Interdisciplinary courses- Rivers, Humanities, Structures, and the Art of the Renaissance.

 

His hockey teams travelled to Sweden, Finland and Russia in 1985, 87, 89 and won State Championships. His lacrosse teams travelled to Arizona, Texas, California and won 15 State Championships.

 

In 1993 he was Awarded the Joukowsky Fellowship and enrolled at The New York Academy of Figurative Art graduating Cum Laude in 1996. Over many years he worked and travelled with Tom Buechner who has had a profound impact on his painting and his approach to learning.

 

Born in Princeton, New Jersey and married to his wife Sally since 1979 he now resides in the Champlain Valley in Vermont not far from where they attended College in Middlebury. His three children and seven grandchildren live in Connecticut, Colorado and California. This, and his 1820’s farmhouse and 30 acre meadow keep him plenty busy with some time to paint, play hockey, ski or ref HS lacrosse.
